Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Emily E — 17 Oct 2010
I am glad I finally got round to seeing this film, mainly because I am gooey eyed Cusack fan, and was particularly gooey eyed when watching this as I had a few too many glasses of wine beforehand lol Anyway, I can totally see why many women of a certain generation fell in love with Cusack, particularly because of the character he plays in this film and he's starting to look like a real cute guy in this film as I've seen some of his earlier films, and he doesn't do a thing for me in those films lol Anyway, putting my shallow thoughts aside, I believe this film is one of those rare films aimed at the teenage market in the 80's that still turned out to be an OK film, and I would put it up there with likes of The Breakfast Club and Heathers, etc., and that's because it's got a good script and a good cast. It may be a little dated because of the clothes and the music, but you can still relate to the storyline in today's times as well, and it makes me reflect back on my own adolescence, and that's why I love it! Plus, it's got John Cusack in it, so that's why I love it even more lol.
Glad to see this film made it into a recent Guardian Greatest Romantic Films Top 25 listing :-).
