Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Ola G — 11 Aug 2011
Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) is in the midst of his high school graduation day, and while most others have plans for college, Lloyds biggest plan is to ask the beautiful grade A student and valedictorian Diane Court (Ione Skye) for a date. Lloyd attempts to win her heart over the objections of her over-protective father James Court (John Mahoney) before Diane leaves for a scholarship in England.
"Say Anything" was written and directed by Cameron Crowe and it shows how well he handle teenangst. Partly a classic high school drama/comedy, but yet with a touch of something else. A larger layer of life and it´s ups and downs. Not just lovewise. You gotta love the iconic scene when Lloyd serenades Diane, outside her bedroom window by holding a boombox up above his head and playing the the brilliant "In your eyes" by Peter Gabriel for her. Great performances from Cusack, Skye and Mahoney. Solid one.
