Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Jerome P — 24 Nov 2012
A remarkably simple, yet authentic, reconstruction of young love in the time following graduation, when everyone is figuring out where their life will go from here. Everyone is at their best here, with Cusack and Skye essentially perfect: the relationship they portray feels spot on.
Mahoney unsurprisingly brings an incredible amount of depth to what could have been a stereotypical "protective father" role: this is a man who thinks and feels so many things for his daughter and the film does a great job of revealing that.
I also would make a special note of the soundtrack, which featured several well known songs, as well as lesser ones that I really enjoyed. Perhaps the best teenage romance film I've ever seen: certainly the most genuine.
