Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Eric M — 05 Jun 2009
A prime example of why character development is so important. You get to know Lloyd Dobler and Diane Court so well that their love for each other feels so right. I dont watch too many romantic movies because they dont develop the relationship.
I'm left wondering 'who on earth cares?' That's not the case here. No, this is not a chick flick. I'm starting to wonder if John Cusak was born to play in 'Guy' chick flicks.
Not only this but 'High Fidelity' and 'Better off Dead' are great examples and great films. Lloyd is such a socially awkward guy that it's hard for me not to relate. I think in one way or another anyone could relate to someone or some situation in this film.
There's an art to watching movies...it requires your full attention. If you give this film your full attention and take everything in, it will give you one of the greatest, on screen, romances ever.
