Review of Say Anything... (1989) by Keegan K — 06 Dec 2013

I went back in time to watch a classic 80s movie that I had not seen before. I have to say that it is quite hard sometimes to watch movies outside of my modern era. The characters really have to attract me quickly and the plot has to be good. While this movie has been acclaimed as a one of the greatest romantic movies, I just can't say that I got into it as much as maybe everyone did when it came out in 1989.

In this movie, underachiever Lloyd chases after high school valedictorian Diane. Diane has earned a fellowship in England. She agrees to a date with Lloyd and the two began seeing each other after that. Unfortunately Diane's father does not approve of Lloyd and prefers that she not see him.

For me the movie was in the middle but nothing more. There were some cute moments between the two main actors and Diane is more than beautiful in this film. Lloyd is definitely fun to watch as well and he knows how to treat Diane right. But I never really found myself totally engaged. It was definitely more of a serious movie. There were some cute moments and things that made me laugh but it would not be one that I would watch over and over again or mark as a classic for me.

If I were to pick out my favorite moment from the film, it would be when Lloyd goes to pick up Diane and she walks out from her room in the prettiest white dress I've ever seen.
