Torture is an appropriate word.

Like most people I had no idea after the first Saw movie came out I would be watching the fourth, fifth and sixth installment of this rather disgusting series. I have said many times that the first movie can easily stand on it's own and is a very well set up thriller. In many ways the first one had some good points to offer about ethics and the value of life. Unfortunately it's predecessors are if anything just bad copies of the first one, and the more they make the worse it gets except they finally did something right with the newest instalment. I also must say that the first one was the only one that had an ounce of humor in it because the others certainly don't have any.

Just like Saw II, III and IV, the fifth isn't able to stand as an Independent movie and flow as a whole. The movie relies way too much on information from the previous films and it gets rather confusing for people who don't watch this series with a magnifying glass. I was able to follow it but that's just because I watched all the previous films before I saw this one.

I remember how the first Saw movie was able to surprise you with new facts, plot-twists and different directions but now we most often can see that there are going to be some twists and turns from the first frame. Do I now what they are? no, do I care? God no. That's the problem, it's gotten so serious that people just don't care and don't get surprised when something is discovered to be something totally different then you expected.

The events in Saw 5 are pretty much the standard of the series and are just a worse copy of the previous one. People find them selfs in horrible situation, many scream and fight, Flashback scenes worth about 25 minutes and many more. Director David Hackle does nothing fresh or new with the material that he has but you are used to that when a new director takes on a movie series. He just copies the style and feeling of Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, III, IV) who originally stole them from James Wan. Ambition right? The torture scenes are obviously made to shock you but now we are getting sick of them and rather then being shocked, we laugh. And that's not a good thing when you are talking about a torture porn movie.

If you are a die hard Saw fan and is waiting strongly to now what happens next, then this will not disappoint. But if you are a movie enthusiast, you will not enjoy this at all so please just stay away. Maybe if you are a really dedicated movie fan, you can watch the first five just to be able to watch the sixth which was pretty good actually.

1/5.
