Review of Saw (2004) by Kurt N — 28 Oct 2015
So much in this film is dramatic for the sake of being dramatic. While Leigh Whannell's performance is solid at first, it feels more and more forced as the movie drags by, and that final climax at the end feels soooooo overacted.
In part, the writers are absolutely to blame. The dialogue just feels so expository and narrative, it loses all authenticity and believability. I think at it's center, the idea of Saw and this scenario has so much potential, but how it was executed (sorry for the pun) delivers to just barely satisfy and not exceed expectation.
Furthermore, with the exception of only the main character, all the other characters are so two-dimensional. Even Danny Glover, who just goes from 1 dimension of cop to the second dimension of dishonorably discharged and obsessive cop.
