Review of Saw (2004) by Harald M — 29 Jul 2012
Before starting this review, I shall tell you that it may contain spoilers, so if you haven't seen the movie, don't read this review, but the summarize is, go see this movie right now.
Wow, the memories, I shall tell you that I started watching horror movies since a very young age (5 years old) and my first horror movie was Saw (obviously on DVD), I enjoyed it a lot at that age, and I like it even better now (13 years old).
The directorial debut from filmmaker James Wan, this psychological thriller comes from the first screenplay by actor Leigh Whannell, who also stars. Whannell plays Adam, one of two men chained up in a mysterious chamber. The other, Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes), like Adam, has no idea how either of them got there. Neither of them are led to feel optimistic by the man lying between them dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Together, Adam and Dr. Gordon attempt to piece together what has happened to them and who the sadistic madman behind their imprisonment is. For it's time, the idea of the games was something very original and it's impact in theaters was noticeable. The film itself knows how to take the suspense to a whole new level, the acting was so good that it seemed real, and the twists come in a surprising way, like the one from the already famous ending, when the corpse laying in the ground was no other man than the same Jigsaw, who was watching the actions made by Adam and Doctor Gordon, and was electrocuting them in some parts. There is also no denying of Adam's sense of humor, for example, when he acted like a dying person after smoking a "poissoned" cigarrete. The traps were also very unique and way to impacting, like the already famous bear trap, which also appeared in Saw VI with a new design, in Saw 3D, and in cameos in other chapters (Yeah, I am also a SAW fan).
So overall, the first installent in my already favorite horror franchise is an awesome, gory, terrifying, and original movie which impact can be seemed today, with the millions of fans it gained around the world.
Highly Recomended.
