Review of Saw (2003) by Thomas L — 22 Feb 2013

While I have often heard critics bash this film, and audiences loved it, I didn't really know what to think. IT seemed stupid, and with the amount of critics disliking it, I had low expectations. I thought this movie was really gonna suck.

Well, it turns out I was very wrong indeed. While I still believe that the concept was unbelievably ridiculous, I was still surprised at the directions the plot went. There were a lot of twists and dramatic scenes.

But what surprised me the most was actually the characters. I saw this movie expecting the characters to be completely 1-dimensional flat uninteresting dull role odels that just kinda had to be there for the torture scenes to happen. However, not only were they 3-dimensional (for the most part), they were also pretty damn relatable. There was a lot of psychologic philosophy in this film too.

So, to recap briefly: Great characters, good story, lots of nice unexpected twists, a lot of gory violence, but still a ridiculously silly concept. 4/5 stars.
