Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Zander W — 14 Nov 2014
I really enjoyed this movie. It was very educational and is one of the movies that best captures how horrible war is. Steven Spielberg put a lot of time and money into making this movie as perfect as possible.
He spent tons of money hiring extras and amputees to play bodies. He wanted to capture the sound a bullet hitting someone makes so he had people record the sound of dead cows being shot. He bought gallons of fake blood to turn the water red.
He did a great job of not glorifying war and making the public understand how horrifying war is. This is a must see movie. The thing that really stood out is the realisticness. I would recommend this to everyone as long as they are mature enough and aren't faint of heart.
There are plenty of gruesome scenes which might make some hurl. The movie is also historically accurate. The Storming of Normandy unfolded much the way it happened in the movie. The movie is also based off of a true story of four brothers dying in war and a platoon of soldiers being sent to look for the fifth brother to prevent his mother from having to lose all of her sons.
I would definitely recommend this to highschool students because in highschool you decide whether you want to join the military or not. This movie might affect your choice greatly.
