Not only the greatest war movie but one of the greatest movie ever made along with Spielberg's Schindler's list (I'd slightly rate SL higher) but nonetheless it is really mesmerising and very realistic, some of the war sequences are incredible.
Fully deserved best director win for Spielberg, I'm surprised it didn't won the Best picture which was really shocking. Everything about Saving private Ryan was wonderful, Acting was top notch because of it's great cast but Tom Hanks steals the show with another incredible performance.
Spielberg knows how to mix up personal emotions and horror of war together which makes it completely unforgettable.
