Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Ted N — 24 May 2015
I've seen a number of war movies, but I have never had one that had such a profound emotional impact on me as Saving Private Ryan. I distinctly remember seeing it for the first time on a Friday, and all weekend long I thought about it. And on that Sunday, man, I just wept, as I truly realized and appreciated how much so many Americans have sacrificed for this country.
This Memorial Day of 2015, I watched Saving Private Ryan for the first time in High Definition. I've seen the film many times now, and yet I still manage to catch details, both visually and narratively, that I didn't notice in previous viewings.
It's extremely rare that I ever give a 5-star movie rating. Saving Private Ryan is not just one of Steven Spielberg's best films. It's one of the best and most influential films of all time.
