Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Mayank A — 30 Oct 2017
Lauded by many to be the Greatest War Film Ever, well it just might be. At least in my books, it's the most complete war movie ever, it covers all aspect of a war, from the glory to the regret. It got realistic action ranging from battalion battle sequences to small squad action. The opening sequence was the most intense and gory battle scene I have come across. Got a human story to tell, the on-road adventure of a squad shows us all the faces of war, got camaraderie, humor, resentment, bravery, and cowardice. In the end not sure if it's an anti-war movie or a celebration of war.
Watched the movie for the second time only, first being at the time of its release. Even though it's close to 20 years since its release, it's still got production values to make you feel it might have been released last year. The direction along with the performance by the cast makes it's a masterpiece. The only complain I have is it was a tad too long.
