Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Mark M — 02 Jan 2013
A masterpiece of a film. Saving Private Ryan is as gut-wrenching & sobering as they come. A film that is so mesmerizing, so gripping from it's opening scenes to the final sad conclusion that one cannot have been changed by the sacrifice military men made on all of our behalves during WWII. The utter senselessness of it all is staggering. The loss of lives, the pain & despair are center stage in this unflinching film about the true horrors of war. Saving Private Ryan is likely the most realistic film ever made about this or perhaps any war. Spielberg so meticulously recreates what it is to be at war that you cannot have been changed forever after watching this film. This is one of those required films you must see as a human being. Spielberg is at his absolute finest here and has made a film worthy of all those who gave so much.
Saving Private Ryan is a masterpiece of a film.
