Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Cody H — 10 Jan 2013
This is the best war movie ever made. The first scene alone is enough to grab you and keep you on the edge of your seat. Spielberg does an amazing job of showing that war is not glamorous. It's real and it's intense.
I was astonished at how real everything looked and felt. I didn't think I was watching a Tom Hanks movie, I thought I was watching WWII as it actually happened. The story is gripping because it makes you think if saving Private Ryan is the right thing to do and will he even be willing to leave his fellow soldiers.
I thought that the character development on the main group was great because they are each so different from each other, but a lot of them agree that the mission is FUBAR (watch the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about).
And, the final scene after this intense battle sequence is so emotionally moving that it will stick with me forever. From the first moment to the last second, I was invested with the story and the characters and I never wanted the movie to end.
This is the most moving film I have ever seen, and did I mention it's also my favorite movie of all time? Without a doubt, Grade: A+.
