Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Cristian M — 20 Oct 2013
I'm pretty sure have I seen the trailer for this film back in 1997 and including if I was 17 and not 7, I'm petty sure I'd check this movie out. For one it's a World War II film, has a great filmmaker Steven Spielberg, and great actor Tom Hanks. But would I have been ready for this? Definitely not. Nope.
Steven Spielberg brings us probably the most gritty war film ever that completely changed the game of films in that genre and how we see war films today. Think about it, when you see a trailer for a upcoming war film I'm pretty sure you wonder if it'll be like Saving Private Ryan, or perhaps Black Hawk Down.
Anyway, film starts off with the famous Normandy invasion of June 6th, 1944 and it lasts for about 20 minutes and some change. It's insane. And the film only gets better from there.
Tom Hanks plays a captain of a squad looming for Private James Ryan played by Matt Damon and they play there roles fine, as everyone else too. Great film that makes you feel for them and get to know the characters and the ones that do die you feel sorry and sadness for them.
Good movie, recommend it to anyone, but don't watch it with your kids. Pretty sure they'd be scared and wouldn't know what the hell is happening to the screen.
