Review of Saving Private Ryan (1998) by Jason M — 30 Jan 2016
Speilberg's greatest film. Another showcase for Tom Hank's diversity as an actor. Not just another war film, Saving Private Ryan brings the Normandy Invasion to us in likely the most realistic depiction of the original event.
My boss' veteran father saw this film and was asked how realistic it was. He responded that this film was the most realistic depiction of the action and events he had ever seen on film. His only criticism was that they didn't swear as much as was shown (I surmise that swearing incessantly is a modern phenomenon).
There are elements of American and other elements of propaganda here that may be overblown, but should not take away from this being a timeless classic.
