Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Robyn E — 28 Apr 2014
I expected Saving Mr. Banks to be good, but I was wrong. I think it's great! I loved the way they unravelled Mrs. Travers' past to explain not only Mary Poppins, but her current self. This is the first Tom Hanks performance I've seen in years that didn't just make me more tired of him.
He really toned himself down and brought the charm. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed him as Disney. I always love Emma Thompson, and she is at the top of her game in this movie. Her stiff, sniffiness is wonderfully emotional.
She's an old biddy, but a very sympathetic one. It was also nice to see Colin Farrell in a simple, charming role, which is where he excels. Now I can't wait to watch Mary Poppins again.
