Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Lee D — 03 Jun 2014
I can definitely say that I wasn't disappointed by saving Mr banks but I also can't say that I was floored by it. the story is a good one but by film standards its quite predictable but only because we know what happened in history already.
We know that Mary Poppins was successfully made and how big of a hit it was so when we see the rights being handed over to Disney in the end there is definitely no surprise. the area where this movie shines for me is in the performances.
Not a single person in this film was off in my opinion. from Emma Thompson all the way to Paul Giamatti, everyone gave their parts their all and it shows. I will say though that seeing Tom Hanks as Disney didn't deliver the effect one would hope to see in a role such as this.
Now I'm not saying Hanks did poorly at portraying Disney, but there was never a time when I looked at him and said "that's Walt Disney come back to life right there!" I always knew it was Tom Hanks giving a performance ( albeit a good one) so I can't give him the highest marks possible, but at the same time I don't know of any other actor who could've been just as if not more successful so his performance is still incredibly well done.
All in all I'd say I'm glad I've seen saving Mr Banks and I'd recommend a watch to anyone.
