Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Michael R — 06 Sep 2014
Saw "Saving Mr. Banks" again last night, which tells the tender back story of the making of the Disney classic "Mary Poppins" -- undoubtedly one of the best movies of its kind.
If it even has a kind.
"Mr. Banks" is an astoundingly elegant, touching and unforgettable experience, expertly brought to life by some of the virtuoso actors of our time: Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Paul Giamatti.
Just as surprising, though, is why it took so long for someone to tell this story on film.
Thank goodness the winds changed and this story floated into our lives.
"Saving Mr. Banks" is a grown-up movie about growing up, sweet as candy yet as complex as a red blend. It is the adult dimension behind a children's classic, one that reveals difficult crevasses of the human soul.
As it turns out, it's possible for our childhoods to be as deep and dark as a canyon at dusk -- and yet still have a Disney ending.
