Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Epifania A — 31 Mar 2016
"This is what we, storytellers, do. We restore order with imagination. We instil hope, again and again and again.".
When it comes to John Lee Hancock's "Saving Mr. Banks", the above lines by the Walt Disney character (played by Tom Hanks), say it all. The movie is indeed a spectacular piece of storytelling that has us deep in the pain and redemption that P. L. Travers (played by Emma Thompson) experiences in translating parts of her precious life from the sobriety of literary representations into the potential frivolous fluff of a made-in-Hollywood movie. Do watch it, and be sure to weep a bit.
