Review of Saving Mr. Banks (2013) by Kameron W — 13 May 2016
Written for me: my 7 year old self watched Mary Poppins in the cinema when it first came out. This film isn't so much about the childhood of PL Travers, its about mine. The film is clever; threads from Mary Poppins are explained through Travers' childhood, but then repeated through the relationships of those making the 'musical'.
And at a deeper level its looking at the events that shape us, how they are sacrosanct and how if we understand that in ourselves it can help us in breaking through to others. A great film, mis-understood/overlooked by a cynical industry.
