Review of Saving Grace (2000) by Rainer K — 03 Jul 2012
I never realized that the great Craig Ferguson (who I know from his Late Night Show of course) was once a genuine actor and screenwriter who was part of one of my parents favourite films.
As much as I love his show, I have to disagree with my parents. Although Saving Grace is mildly amusing it's nothing overwhelming or hilarious.
The plot premises are thin (weed is almost always the seemingly easy way to pay back debts in hopeless situations in film) and the characters, beside Ferguson's Matthew, lack genuine depth. Blethyn in particular, whose performance was lauded by critics all over the world, was decent but not extraordinary.
You won't be bored and probably won't hate Saving Grace but it's not a superb experience either. Also, arguably rather for mature moviegoers.
