Review of Saving Face (2004) by Tendy C — 03 Dec 2005
This independent film unexpectedly became one of my favorites of the year. I had no expectations going in and didn't even have any idea what the movie was about when I first saw it in theaters. I only watched it because it was an independent asian american film and I wanted to show my support. This movie is an endearing, heartwarming story about a chinese family through 3 generations. I have never felt soo many different emotions at once while watching a movie... I laughed till I cried, I cried because parts were heartbreaking, I twisted and grimaced in discomfort at some of the less appealing scenes. It really is an awesome movie and it sends a message about an unconditional love that transcends different generations as it seeks to break down barriers and long-held traditions.
