I remember reading about this in the new york times when they were making it... I actually really liked it... I do not know a lot about the chinese culture but it seems very intense and I dont know...maybe im a sucker for a good romance ending.
.. Alice Wu did an amazing job with dealing with so much taboo and making it presentable but realistic...
