Review of Saved (2009) by Steven R — 27 Jun 2008
Audacious and controversial. Will be offensive to most Christians who cannot connect with the satirical tone of the film. Mandy Moore wasn't bad. I think the problem with this film was that it wasn't fairly balanced.
There are about TWO positive Christians in the entire film. However, there are some really good messages of faith here, although a few seem a bit muddled. My opinion of this film has differed since the last time I saw it.
I would recommend this to every Christian that I know. And for those of you who think that this is a totally accurate representation of Christianity, the key word is "satire". We're not all like the Christians that appear in this film.
For everyone else, keep an open mind, look for the stronger messages dealing with faith, and it may teach you something. I personally believe that any film that deals specifically with my faith is one that needs to be seen, no matter how controversial (ex.
DOGMA, THE DA VINCI CODE). We owe it to ourselves as Christians to view these films, rather than boycotting them.
