Review of Saved! (2004) by Lydia K — 23 Aug 2009
"Saved!" is one of those movies where religion is truly treated as satirical taboo. If you think the queen bee antagonists of "Heathers", "Mean Girls" or "Carrie" were rough, then you haven't seen Mandy Moore's wicked fun performance as a overzealous teen biblethumper who thinks that all the vicious stuff she's saying & doing is strictly for the good of Jesus.
Her performance is not too over-the-top, not too sweet, just simply good enough. As for the rest of the film, it begins to suffer a bit from a identity crisis, for instance, you don't know whether to laugh at certain parts of the film or not.
Either way, "Saved!" is flawed but funny.
