Review of Save the Last Dance (2001) by Kevin R — 27 Sep 2015
I would never bust a cap in your ass.
Sara grew up in a small town in the country where she was training to become a ballerina. Unfortunately her mother passed away in an accident on the way to one of her auditions and she is forced to move into the city with her dad. Her dad lives in a primarily black neighborhood making some situations for Sarah awkward in school. She meets a classmate that helps her make the transition and they fall in love...but love between races isn't easy in their neighborhood...
"I just want someone there who loves me.".
"I love you.".
Thomas Carter, director of Coach Carter, Swing Kids, Metro, Under the Influence, and episodes from the television series Miami Vice, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Fame, and St. Elsewhere, delivers Save the Last Dance. The storyline for this picture is very predictable but fun to watch unfold. The setting, dialogue, and acting was above average. The cast includes Julia Styles, Kerry Washington, Sean Patrick Thomas, Fredro Starr, and Bianca Lawson.
"This ain't no layaway plan.".
I recently came across this on HBOGO and wanted to watch it with my girlfriend since it is one of her all time favorite films. I thought it was okay and an above average addition to the genre. It's not as good as Flash Dance or Dirty Dancing, but it is a nice addition to the genre that is worth a viewing.
"What's up with that double jointed cheerleader shit anyway?".
Grade: C+.
