It feels like any other 'inspirational' teen artist/musician/dancer movie. Fortunately, it has better developed characters, and the story doesn't dip outright into idiocies like many other such movies.
The romance line isn't annoying and actually serves a purpose instead of being a nod to the cliches of this genre.
