Review of Savages (2006) by Mark P — 03 Mar 2009
Well done. Emotional and moving without wallowing in it. Laura Linney is, simply a national treasure. Phillip Seymore Hoffman is also quite good. The only criticism I could level? They're both doing pretty much exactly what they've done in several other films.
The script falls down in a few places. I could've lived without the bit with the dog. That being said, it reamains centered on the important elements of the story, even when various subplots crop up, threatening to spin us off from the compelling central story.
