Review of Savages (2006) by Emma D — 06 Sep 2009
This independent and original film from the producers of "Sideways" in my opinion restores the faith in the great American cinema and all that it entails. Although, the story unfolds slowly in a rather sad tone, after all it deals with dementia, it had its funny moments - the way you would find the in the novel "The Corrections" by Jonathan Frentzen.
It talks about dysfunctional family, midlife crisis, death and paints a picture of middle-class America that you don't see often enough these days. Dialogues are perfect here and acting by the great Philip Seymour Hoffman and especially Laura Linney is splendid and pitch-perfect.
Not to be missed.
