Review of Savage Grace (2007) by May E — 12 Sep 2011
A dull, somewhat dark, old looking drama.
A repressed homosexual single boy has an odd, emotional (and then sexual) relationship with his weird actress mother. He grows up and murders her, following years of her trying to change his orientation. It is surprisingly a true crime story. Moore plays Barbara, the temperamental and delicate mother who marries a wealthy heir. There is tension throughout and the three main characters all face issues, problems and clash towards a future monumental event. The film has some sexual charge, but the scenes are cold and more uneasy than steamy or adding. There is also a hint of incest, depression and poor acting.
I found this periodic true story drama a bore, disliking all of the cast and the manner of undertones and tension portrayed throughout. The film looks dated, dull and lacks the display of emotion, passion and problems that the complicated story holds, and needs. Poor, lacking grace and not very savage.
