Review of Sausage Party (2016) by Phillip D — 04 Jan 2017
Oddly enough, Sausage Party fails to fully capitalize on its humorous premise, although there are a few laughs to be had. Frankly, most of the humor for this movie was in the trailer and the rest of the film is pretty serious.
Mostly this is just exceptionally on-the-nose commentary on religion and society mixed with all the highly offensive stereotype based humor we give Adam Sandler such a hard time for. As such, it isn't all that funny and a quick read through the script is worth more than a few cringes but what Sausage Party lacks in decorum, humor and watch-ability it makes up for in sheer interest.
It's an undeniably fascinating premise and execution, even if its reach exceeds its grasp. That's about all that can be said about Rogen's latest venture. Unfortunately, that doesn't make Sausage Party worth your time.
