Review of Sausage Party (2016) by Dodringo64 — 15 Aug 2016
So, this interesting movie was directed by the same person who created Madagascar 3, Shrek 2 and Monsters Vs Aliens as well as the guy who worked on a **** ton of Thomas The Tank Engine. So, this is a bit of a departure from that.
This movie tells the story of a bunch of food, they all live in a supermarket and all believe that Human beings are Gods, and when you are chosen and placed in the shopping cart, you are going to heaven. But as we know, that's not exactly true. So, when one character learns this, he feels very compelled to warn all of his friends of this.
Now first off, this movie is extremely satirical, it's not exactly the laugh out loud comedy the trailers are making it out to be, it's far more a satirical look at our world. Belief in God, Politics, War in Countries that are portrayed as various foods, this is a little more than I expected, while also having SO MUCH raunch. Let's just say it's gonna be a long time before I eat any more bagels.
Some stuff goes down towards the end of the film that is INSANE, I was shocked. The concept of this movie is great, that's my favourite thing about the movie, poking fun at Disney Movies and putting that in a blender to give you this. The movie is very funny at times, but the cursing was so frequent in this film that it got old after a while. Some of the jokes do fall flat and just don't do it for me.
After seeing so much anime that is very violent, it really doesn't have that shock value for me anymore because I am exposed to things like this through anime. However, I definitely enjoyed this just for the concept alone, so I will give this movie a 8.
