Review of Sausage Party (2016) by Jay B — 14 Dec 2016

"Sausage Party" was a funny trailer parody of Pixar films, but as an entire movie it mostly falls flat. It is a one or two joke comedy. The trailer was a vastly more effective joke in my opinion.

..a few lines about how Hot Dogs and Buns want to "get it on" and how it will all be great when they are chosen (ala the crane game in Toy Story), but it is quickly subverted when they are chopped up and cooked.

And those two jokes are the crux of the whole movie really. I chuckled once in my entire viewing of the thing, which was a quick moment when Toilet Paper said "you don't wanna know" what the man does to him.

Other than that, it was hard to laugh at stuff I had already seen in the trailer, especially when the gags were repeated over and over. It seemed like it tried to have some kind of message, but it just didn't gel with me.

..and honestly, if you want to be a big comedy, I need laughs.
