Review of Sauna (2008) by Katie S — 30 Nov 2009
There is a palpably grim and oppressive atmosphere that gave the whole film a superbly disturbed mood. The acting was fantastic and the cinematography excellent. Its slow pacing allows for complex character development and many intriguing relationships to unfold and be explored.
The ghostly apparitions of Sauna are visually creepy and unsettling, reminiscent of J-Horror nightmares. But this film is something that is completely unique. It leaves you with lingering doubts, and questions about the morality of war, guilt, and the forgiveness of sins.
