Review of Satyricon (1969) by Carlos M — 01 Mar 2016
A Fellini masterpiece. Based on Petronius' book, it showcases how the youth in lower classes in Ancient Rome lived a hedonistic lifestyle and where that path eventually takes them. A visually stunning film.
Quite disjointed, like the original text. There is no strongly connected plot. It presents the set of misadventures of Encolpius and Giton, gay youth lovers, as they search for sexual pleasures and the troubles that leads them to.
This is a high-art film, and not for general audiences. This is not Hollywood, but one of the best films in the Italian cinema genre. Recommended highly for art students and cinemaphiles.
