Review of Satyagraha (2013) by Durga A — 18 Sep 2013
Few days create history so was 5th April 2011, when Anna Hazare started an indefinite hunger strike to escalate the anti-corruption law in India.Whole nation including the media turned up to support the act.
Prakash Jha's Satyagraha is fictional shadow of Jantar Mantar episode but he neither gathered crowd nor support.
Surprisingly Jha is into recycling mode:He used his "Rajneethi" set,"Aarakshan"scenes and cast from both and named it insistence of truth aka Satyagraha.
The subject is still fresh and wet in the minds of people but the plot drags and doesn't connect or reboot the emotions.
BigB was a classic choice for the role but tedious to watch him repeatedly doing the same stuff (Viruddh,Aarakshan now Satyagraha)Ajay passes off in ease portraying Kejriwal and Ms.Bebo Khan is more sensual for the Journalist robe. The movie has all bollywoodization materials:an innocent girl(Amrita),political-villian(Manoj Bajpai),starts with an item song and fills gap with a romantic song between candlelights.
Did I mention Mr.Rampal appears in the movie:Look for the Jeep or Tall personality with warm clothing in hot sun.
I do appreciate the directors intention to recreate the lost buzz and anger about the.
Anti-corruption movement, but why itchy melodrama in the name of fiction.
Satyagraha loses its steam and fades within Aam Janta; breaking the fast with 3 expresso shots.
