Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Miikka O — 14 Jul 2009
The 70s was an explosive era for character exploration in the cinema, most prominently street-level characters in solitude or without a path (Taxi Driver, Rocky, Mean Streets). No decade before this depicted characters with such realism, and Saturday Night Fever is a testament to that era of great filmmaking.
Picking up attributes of Rocky, and nearly directed by Avildsen himself, director John Badham takes the reigns of a production rich with hard-hitting music.
