Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Ethan A — 20 Jun 2011
The 70's was a huge era for big blockbuster star driven movies. Travolta rose to super stardom in this film about a disco dancing street wise young rebel named Tony Manero. Disco was big in 1977 and The Bee Gees were the biggest group in the world with their disco dancing tune Staying Alive.
But all dancing aside this film is a gritty and dark tale about living on the tough streets of Brooklyn and a young man Tony longing to get out. Dancing seems to be his only escape. Impressive film debut for John Travolta who was a pop culture icon for that time.
