Review of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1960) by Robbie M — 06 Mar 2009
Bleak and stylish, just like you want your angry-young-man films. It's really no wonder Tony Richardson was one of this movie's great products. Finney is nearly astounding, and the camera-work gives--or gave--new meaning to verité.
There can be no question of its being ahead of its time, especially on the subject of abortion. It's odd how nearly 50 years later Hollywood is so allergic to the controversy.
