Review of Satantango (1994) by Andriy D — 20 Mar 2010
This film is 7.5 hours long. I call that epic. Ambitious and masterful. Tarr is present-day Wagner of the cinema. Absolutely captivating. Nothing else made in last 20 years can hope to equal to something like 'Satantango'.
Watching it in a single day (as I did) is a true cinephile survival test. However, what can be compared with the pleasure of watching a bunch of cows in black'n'white hang out around dilapidated Hungarian village enframed by a single opening shot that lasts unbroken for about 20 minutes?
