Review of Satan's Little Helper (2005) by Kerri C — 04 Oct 2012
(2 Stars) Satan's Little Helper is a painful little film, but there's actually some fun to be had with it (key word: some). It has an annoying little brat named Dougie who I think is the director's interpretation of what happens to little sh**s when they can't tell video games from reality. He meets his video game idol Satan, or as I like to call them, random actor in a fifty-dollar Halloween costume who doesn't have peripheral vision due to his mask. The two cause a lot of debauchery, most of which involve murder. It's supposed to be funny, and some of it is... but you HATE Dougie so much. It's so predictable that they infuriatingly do the twist ending twice.
There's actually something I like about it, but I'm convinced it's unintentional due to the low budget: the movie is shot in a way that looks like a made for TV Disney movie. I like the clash of the genres and a send-up of Disney Channel original films is welcome in my book.
Its production values are embarrassingly low, Good Burger is a scarier movie than this, and the amount of times you facepalm at the events of the movie are high. I am somehow entertained by Satan's Little Helper mostly because I watched it with a friend. I don't recommend watching this movie alone... not because it's a horror flick, but because you'll have no one to complain to.
