Review of Satan (2006) by Xuan P — 14 Mar 2009
Best Colombian Film ever... so far. Not only is the subtlety and restrain of the script, direction and acting to be admired, but also how well and maturely the film is all put together, technically speaking.
I didn't take the story too literally. As I understand, it is based on a novel about the last few days in the life of a man who would eventually go on a one day killing spree. Well. to me is more a story about three characters dealing with a nature that is not their own. All three main characters deal with a reality that sort of feels unreal to them. They can't comprehend -let alone deal- with the life they lead, so they each open a door into a forbidden room. "Satanas" is a wonderful character study, and perhaps it announces the arrival of Andres Biaz, who could eventually become the first Colombian film director worth a damn (Aside from Rodrigo Garcia... and Sergio Cabrera).
