Kristin Scott Thomas, as usual performed amazingly, but the story was completely just taken bits and pieces from the novel. If you didn't read the book, I would think it is very difficult to get into the characters' emotions because there are so many things happening in such a short time (which in the book would have been covered by a chapter or two).
