Review of Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic (2005) by Kenneth S — 04 Jul 2006
Rewatchability 8/10.
I'm totally biased when it comes to this chick. I love her "too cool for any guy" persona. She always cracks me up the way she can improv some funny shit during interviews and commentaries.Having said that, I gotta say, she is better in sketch and TV than on stage. She makes being over-the-edge into a gimmicky stand-up routine. Pretty soon it becomes very formulated.
1. Set up.
2. Follow through.
3. Abrupt turn to inappropriate or disgusting ending.
Believe me I love un-PC humor, but it's being overdone these days (thank you Trey Parker and Matt Stone). Remember how when Family Guy first came out, it was pretty tame, almost "Full House-ish" at times, now they're all wild and shit, doing jokes about Elizabeth Smart, and what not? That's what I'm talking about. It's like in the 90's when all stand up was "Did ya ever notice" humor thanks to Seinfeld.
Anyhow, blah, blah, blah. I just went on a rant. The movie is not actually that bad. Her strength is in her infectious songs. It's a rental.
