Review of Santa's Slay (2005) by Valeria — 24 May 2008
I watched a few Christmas themed horror movies in the past month. Some of them were rather disappointing. I didn't care much for Christmas Evil (it took over half the movie before the main character even did anything evil) and Don't Open Til Christmas wasn't much better. I finally received Santa's Slay via Netflix, and it honestly was the best one out of the bunch.
The movie isn't a straight up horror film. I'd compare it to the dark humor of Gremlins. It stars former wrestling Bill Goldberg as Santa, how is actually Satan's son. Makes sense, considering how similar their names are. In the early days, Santa went around terrorizing people once a year, until an angel won a bet against him, in which Santa had promised to be good for the next 1000 yrs if he lost. So Santa begrudgely kept his word and was good, but the bad news is that the 1000 years are up, and he's planning on coming back with a vengence. The opening scene, which features cameos from James Caan, Fran Drescher and Chris Kattan, is hilarious.
