John Wayne plays the tough Sgt Stryker of the US Marines who finds that Private Conway (John Agar)the son of his former commander has been assigned to his command. Stryker leads his men through the battle of Tarawa and into the Battle of Iwo Jima.
One of the best of John Wayne's WWII movies, this is a performance for which he is well remembered.
