Review of Sands of Iwo Jima (1950) by Gail R — 12 May 2008
There is a reason great leaders tend to not fraternize with subordinates. Sgt Stryker is feared and hated by his men; only those have served in combat with him give him credit for being a good leader. Making warriors out of civilians is a task best left to hard, tough men.
Stryker is such a man. He never handles his own demons well (busted from SgtMajor to Sgt) still he finds creative methods (Mexican Hat Dance) to prepare his men for the horrors of war.
