Review of Sanctum (2011) by Roy Hector K — 23 Jul 2011
Didn't know much about this movie, but picked up the DVD because I thought if its from James Cameron, it should be at least a decent movie. The cover of a diver inside an underwater cave, so it must be some cave movie with sci-fi monsters, or something. It turned out to be a personal disaster account of a group of explorers who got trapped in a cave system, and had to find some other way out.
No monsters, but still is a very good film, showing the dangers that modern-day explorers have to go thru in their quest for glory. Along the way there is also a father-son story with a relationship that was mended along the way.
I found the characterization to be a bit stereotype, but overall did not distract from the movie's effectivity. A pretty good modern-day exploration-adventure movie, highly recommended.
